Prepare the five inputs
| Input | What to enter | Check before entry |
|---|---|---|
| Total tuition | Tuition for the complete course in MYR | Match the award, student category, intake, tax, and fee period. |
| Monthly expenses | Your monthly accommodation, food, transport, utilities, and personal costs | Use the same monthly period for each item. |
| Study duration | The full number of months in the budget | Include months when you retain accommodation during a break. |
| Initial and other fixed costs | Costs that you pay once, plus compulsory charges outside the tuition and monthly amounts | Include the full study period for each charge. Count each cost once. |
| Contingency | An optional percentage of the subtotal | Select your own allowance for cost changes. |
Use a complete university quotation for tuition. Add each compulsory charge that the quotation excludes to the initial and other fixed costs. For a per-semester charge, use the number of semesters that the university confirms. Ask the university if that charge changes each year.
Find your programme through Universities in Malaysia or Courses in Malaysia. Then ask that university for a total tuition quotation. Use Living Costs for Students to prepare your monthly expenses. Use Cost of Study to check the fee period and exclusions.
Monash Malaysia’s 2027 undergraduate fee page lists once-only and per-semester charges outside tuition. Evidence Its service tax page applies 6% service tax to non-Malaysian citizens, with stated exemptions. Evidence These rules apply only to Monash Malaysia. Ask each university if its quotation includes service tax and extra charges.
Include the full study period
International students require insurance for the full study period. Evidence They also require medical screening after arrival. Evidence A Student Pass usually lasts up to one year at a time. Evidence
Request the applicable insurance, medical screening, and Student Pass renewal charges. Add their totals for your study period to the fixed costs. Read Malaysia Student Visa and Student Pass for the separate charge categories.
Prevent duplicate costs
- Record each cost once in a separate budget list.
- Mark the costs that the total tuition quotation includes.
- Remove those costs from the other calculator inputs.
- Confirm the currency and fee period for each other amount.
- Enter the confirmed total tuition without an annual fee conversion.
- Compare the result with your available funds.
Interpret the result
The subtotal equals total tuition plus monthly expenses multiplied by study months, plus initial and other fixed costs. The contingency applies to that subtotal.
The calculator keeps tuition separate from duration. A shorter study budget does not reduce the tuition input.
Treat a refundable deposit as an initial cash requirement. Do not subtract a possible future refund from the funds that you need now.
For admission help, state the award, campus, intake, student category, and the fee questions that remain unresolved. Keep bank details and identity documents private.
